Welcome to Tropical Memories On-Line

We're so pleased to introduce the newest member of the Tropical Memories team - our daughter, Michelle Moreno.

Chelle and her family (husband Gilberto, son Stefano and daughter Alondra, and 2 charming kitties) will be arriving in Sarasota from Terre Haute the first of June. Chelle is going to take over the day-to-day operations of Tropical Memories, and it will most often be her smiling face you see when you visit. And, yes, she loves to talk with visitors as much as we do, so the only change will be that she's younger and cuter.

Bud and I are semi-retiring.....we'll still do the fun part, finding and buying the wonderful art, and will be available to help Chelle in the store when she needs us. We'll be leaving Sarasota the end of July for a four-month buying trip to South America, mostly Ecuador and Peru, and will be sending lots of old favorites and brand-new items back up to her. We'll have a link on the web site where you can read our on-going travel blog starting in August, and keep up with where we are and what we're finding.

We hope you'll all come in and welcome Chelle to Tropical Memories and Sarasota. You may also have an opportunity to meet Stefano, who loves to help out in the store and who is turning into a carbon copy of his grandfather (at least he'll have new stories to tell!).

If you've been in our store you know we'll talk your ears off and tell you far more than you ever wanted to know about all of our goodies, so shopping on line with us should be a bit more peaceful.

Our first Tropical Memories was on the island of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands, in a lovely little blue Caribbean cottage in Fredriksted. We soon added a second store on St. Thomas in the Royal Dane Mall in Charlotte Amalie. Everything we sold in those stores was made in the Caribbean.

When we moved to Sarasota, FL in 2002, we began adding new artists from Central and South America as well as Florida, so now we have the best of two continents and a bunch of islands!

To those of you we've met in our store - welcome back! To all of our virtual visitors we say "welcome to Tropical Memories, make yourself at home, and enjoy browsing". We're constantly finding new artists and their products, so keep checking back with us - you never know what you'll find.

We're also going to add a link to the site to keep you updated on our travels and what we're finding, the people we're meeting, and (of major importance), what we're eating, so you can join us as we go. Travel, even the armchair variety, is good for the soul.

A word about our art and handicrafts - many, if not most, of our offerings are made from either recycled materials or renewable resources. We think this is important for our planet and it adds to the unique properties of each item. When we ship to you all of our packaging products are recycled one way or the other, and we hope you'll continue the process. Not to be tree-huggers, but every little bit helps.

At Tropical Memories, we're committed to protecting your privacy. We use the information on your order form to process orders only; we never share this information with others for any reason.
